Recipe: Celebrate both Valentine’s Day and Lunar New Year with Chocolate Earl Grey Ice Cream
BY SCENE SHANG
VALENTINE’S DAY IS EXTRA SPECIAL THIS YEAR, as it coincides with the third day of the Lunar New Year. Don’t worry about choosing between romance and family, we have a fuss-free solution that celebrates both!

Regal and refined Imperial Earl Grey by Quinteassential Tea perfectly complements the chocolate, creating an intoxicating fragrance that delights the palate.
As an integral part of Chinese Culture, tea is served at every event, especially the Lunar New Year.
Traditionally, some form of sweet tea is often served to symbolise a new year with sweet beginnings. After brewing various types of dried fruits and dates in tea, the younger generation serves the sweet tea to their elders as a form of respect. There is then an exchange of auspicious sayings and a gift of red packets from the elders.
In honour of this tradition, we came up with a contemporary recipe for a tea infused sweet treat for you and your loved ones!
Traditional Love Letters combined with fine Earl Grey tea and rich cocoa. Chocolate Earl Grey Ice Cream makes the perfect fusion of Valentine’s Day and the Lunar New Year.
Love Letters, also known as Kueh Kapit, is by far the most poetic traditional Chinese New Year snack with a romantic history. The thin, crispy, coconut wafers were used to hide secret messages and exchanged between lovers. Receivers would then eat the romantic pastry, symbolising that the message was taken to heart. Emulate the romantic history of this Chinese New Year pastry, express your feelings through your actions and a gift with our Chocolate Earl Grey Ice Cream topped with Love Letters.
Looking for ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day amidst the rush of Chinese New Year? Quick, easy, and vegan, our recipe celebrates both occasions and is fuss-free for everyone to enjoy. We use frozen bananas to create an ice-cream-like texture for a delicious, healthier alternative. Extend the gesture to more than just your partner, prepare it for friends and family to express love and appreciation!
