Once the tallest skyscraper in all of Southeast Asia—so tall, pilots landing at Kallang Airport some miles away used it as a marker—Cathay Building is familiar with firsts. Home to a flourishing Asian film scene, it was the first cinema to screen American and British movies. It was also popular for its air-conditioned theater, the first of its kind and a technological wonder in tropical Singapore.
